(x) ReferencesReferences: All necessary references should be included inorder to credit previous work directly relevant to the article.References should follow the Nature style available in mostreference management software. In the text they shouldappear as superscript numbers starting at 1 and at the end ofthe paper they should be listed (double-spaced) innumerical order corresponding to the order of citation in thetext. Where a reference is to appear next to a number in thetext, for example, following an equation, chemical formulaor biological acronym, citations should be written as (ref. X)and not as superscript. Example: “detectable levels ofendogenous Bcl-2 (ref. 3), as confirmed by western blot.”All authors should be listed for papers with up to fiveauthors; for papers with more than five authors, the firstonly should be listed, followed by et al. Abbreviations fortitles of medical periodicals should conform to those used inthe latest edition of Index Medicus. The first and last pagenumbers for each reference should be provided. Abstractsmust be identified as such. Papers in press and preprintshosted on a recognized server may be included in the list ofreferences.Personal communications must be allocated a number andincluded in the list of references in the usual way or simplyreferred to in the text; the authors may choose whichmethod to use. In either case authors must obtainpermission from the individual concerned to quote his/herunpublished work.
